What is TPO?
TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide) is a type of photoinitiator — an ingredient used in some gel nail products to help them cure (harden) under UV or LED light. While TPO is effective at starting the curing process, research has shown that it can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals, particularly with repeated exposure.
Because of these concerns, new EU regulations came into effect on 1 September 2025, restricting the use of TPO in cosmetic products.
